The manufacturing community in Michigan is praising Southwest Michigan State Representatives Kim LaSata,Beth Griffin, and Mary Whiteford among others for having scored a “perfect record” on key issues facing industry in the Great Lakes State.
LaSata, Griffin and Whiteford were among 31 State Reps applauded for their perfect voting record on issues cited by the Michigan Manufacturers Association as key to manufacturing competitiveness. Only one Michigan State Senator managed to match that record, Sen. Mike Shirkey.
Mike Johnston is the Michigan Manufacturers Association’s Vice President of Government Affairs. He says, “Michigan’s manufacturing-driven economy depends on elected officials who prioritize the critical role manufacturers play as job creators, economic investors and community leaders.” He adds, “With thousands of lobbyists working against the interests of manufacturing and thousands of pieces of legislation drafted each year, MMA cannot achieve success for manufacturers without support at the Capitol.”
During the 2017-2018 Legislative Session, Sen. Shirkey and 31 state representatives “demonstrated their commitment to the industry” by supporting the manufacturing position in 100-percent of the votes on legislation critical to the long-term competitiveness of manufacturing. MMA’s vote record focuses on issue areas that ensure a strong economic environment for Michigan manufacturing, including tax policy, talent development, regulatory reform, environmental regulation, energy policy and health care policy.
Johnston notes, “This fall, MMA’s Government Affairs team met with these influential leaders and recognized them for their dedication to Michigan’s most-vital job creation sector,” and adds, “I congratulate these strong and visionary legislators for their commitment to ensuring that Michigan manufacturing continues to lead the nation in job growth.”
