Lake Michigan College is taking submissions of artwork and nominations for awards as it prepares for its annual MLK Celebration Week in January. LMC Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Major Cooper tells WSJM News nominations for the Spirit of MLK Spotlight Awards will be taken through November 30.

“It is an opportunity for us to celebrate students, adults, and organizations in our community that are doing social justice work and following in the footsteps of what the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Junior would want,” Cooper said.

They’re also asking for artwork submissions with a theme of “The Fierce Urgency of Now” and the idea of what “I Have a Dream” would look like in 2022.

“So you can submit photos, video, audio, written expressions, music, poetry, short stories, spoken word, theatrical presentations or any type of creative works.”
