M-40 work in Lawton starts next week

The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a construction project on M-40 in Van Buren County Monday. It says more than 3.5 miles of M-40 from South Lagrave Street to 72nd Avenue will be rebuilt or repaved by the end of summer next year. The $10.1 million investment is intended to improve the M-40 driving surface and safety, and the project includes village infrastructure improvements in Lawton. Work in Lawton starting Monday will be between Lagrave Street and Union Street, and crews will make drainage improvements and rebuild concrete curb and gutter and storm sewer markings. In 2024, crews will return to continue rebuilding M-40 from Union Street to 72nd Avenue. During the work this summer, there will be single-lane closures on M-40. However, there will be a total closure in 2024, and M-40 traffic through Lawton will be detoured.
