Make A Splash! Watercolor Classes Offered At Box Factory For The Arts

The Box Factory for the Arts in St. Joseph is offering some new classes on watercolor painting. It says artists can really learn to “make a splash” with the help of instructor David Baker. The Box Factory filled us in:

Join Box Factory for the Arts studio artist David Baker for an exploration of transparent watercolor during a series of classes starting June 2nd at the Box Factory, 1101 Broad Street. Participants will focus on observational painting both in the classroom and outside on location. Classes will meet on Thursday, June 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.; Sunday, June 5, 2 to 5 p.m.; Thursday, June 9, 6 to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, June 12, 2 to 5 p.m.

There will be a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 11 students for the classes. The non-refundable class fee will be $100 for Berrien Artist Guild members and $110 for non-members. Registration is available online https://boxfactoryforthearts.org/classes-workshops.

Techniques to be covered include flat wash, graded wash, glazing and charging color, color mixing and pigment selection. The class is designed for beginning and intermediate watercolorists. Instruction will be individualized to the participant’s skill level. A list of materials will be provided upon registration.

David is on the faculty at the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph and frequently teaches at the Ox-Bow School of Art in Saugatuck. He has taught workshops on a variety of topics including drawing, painting, watercolor and design. He also exhibits his work in many regional shows including the current MAAC in the Box juried show at the Box Factory.
