Mamma Mia! to Headline 2019-2020 Twin City Players Season

Community theater fans in Michigan’s Great Southwest will be delighted to learn that Mamma Mia! will headline the 2019-2020 Mainstage Season for The Twin City Players launching in September, along with multiple Tony Award winner Fun Home.

TCP officials rolled out a half dozen shows for the upcoming season including the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! which has been huge both on the big screen and on theater stages around the world.

The current Mainstage Season Sponsors who have signed on to underwrite the season include Indiana Michigan Power’s Cook Nuclear Plant, the Boulevard Inn & Bistro, Lake Michigan Chiropractic, LLC and The Herald-Palladium newspaper.

The Twin City Players Board of Directors unveiled the showcase season this morning and reminds potential underwriters that single show sponsorships are still available. Flex passes and individual tickets go on sale on August 1st through the organization’s website at www.twincityplayers.org or by phone at 269-429-0400. They also offer up the potential for private performance rentals, and there’s information regarding such options on the website.

Here’s what’s on the docket for the 2019-2020 TCP Mainstage Season:

  • Mamma Mia! — September 6th through 29th, 2019 under the direction of Sarah Simmons. It’s the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father, unfolding on a Greek Island paradise. It’s a guaranteed smash hit.
  • Marjorie Prime — October 25th through November 10th, 2019 under the direction of Peggy Harrington. It was a 2015 Pulitzer Prize Finalist for Drama. It’s the age of artificial intelligence, and 85-year-old Marjorie — a jumble of disparate, fading memories — has a handsome new companion who’s programmed to feed the story of her life back to her.
  • Kris Kringle the Musical — December 6th through the 15th under the direction of Faith Schroeder-Smith. A captivating new holiday musical reveals the untold story of young Kris Kringle. Discover what happens when an evil toy company CEO crosses paths with a starry-eyed, jobless toymaker.
  • The Savannah Sipping Society — January 31st to February 16th, 2020 under the direction of Kelly Carlin. In this delightful, laugh-a-minute company, four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by Fate — and an impromptu happy hour — and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years.
  • The Women of Lockerbie — March 20th to April 5th, 2020 under the direction of Kraig Kirkdorfer. The Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Award, and winner of a Silver Medal in the Onassis International Playwriting Competition. A mother from New Jersey roams the hills of Lockerbie, Scotland, looking for her son’s remains lost in the crash of Pan Am Flight 103. She meets the women of Lockerbie, who are fighting the U.S. government to obtain the clothing of the victims found in the plane’s wreckage.
  • Fun Home — June 5th through June 28th, 2020 under the direction of Larry Nielsen. Winner of Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book of a Musical all at the 2015 Tony Awards, and Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics’ Circle, the Obie Award, and many more. When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life.

Mamma Mia! is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Marjorie Prime and Fun Home are presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Kris Kringle the Musical is presented by special arrangement with Angel Polar Bear, LLC. The Savannah Sipping Society and The Women of Lockerbie are presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Tickets, when they go on sale in August, run from $12 to $15, plus a $1 charge per ticket for all tickets. Group rates are available and all seats are reserved. Performance times are always at 7:30pm for Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm for Sunday matinees. There will be additional performance dates for Kris Kringle the Musical.

The Twin City Players, with their playhouse located at 600 West Glenlord Road in St. Joseph, were first formed in 1932, and they are a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization striving to engage the community in quality theatre that changes lives and to be recognized for organizational excellence producing quality performances in Michigan’s Great Southwest.
