Maritime History on Parade in South Haven This Weekend

Your chance to relive a slice of American history has arrived ashore in Michigan’s Great Southwest. The South Haven harbor took a step back into history Wednesday when the community welcomed two replica ships from the era of Christopher Columbus, the Nina and the Pinta. The ships were appropriately welcomed by South Haven’s replica tall ship Friends Good Will and vintage USCG 36430 motor life boat.

Hosted by the Michigan Maritime Museum, the ships are available beginning, today, Thursday, August 31st, through Labor Day Monday for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour between 9am and 6pm each day. Admission is $15 for adults, $14 for seniors 62+ and $10 for children ages 5-18.

The ships are from the Columbus Foundation, Inc. in the British Virgin Islands. The Nina was built by hand without the use of power tools and is considered to be the most historically correct Columbus Replica ever built. The Pinta was recently built in Brazil and is a larger version of the archetypal caravel.
