MDOT Flags I-94 Culvert Replacement in New Buffalo

With lighter traffic during the pandemic it may not be as big a deal as otherwise, but here’s a heads up for you just the same from the Michigan Department of Transportation regarding construction under I-94 near New Buffalo beginning next week.

MDOT tells us they are set to begin replacement of the Squaw Creek culvert under I-94 at the New Buffalo weigh stations in Berrien County beginning Monday.

The $10.3 million investment includes:

  • Box culvert replacement
  • Weigh station reconstruction
  • Drainage upgrades
  • New signs and lighting
  • Pavement markings on I-94 at the eastbound and westbound weigh stations in New Buffalo.

Construction is set to begin on Monday, March 23rd, and completion is anticipated by Friday, August 14th. There will be two lanes of I-94 open to traffic in each direction throughout the construction process.
