MDOT Hwy Work Starts Monday

Improving spring weather will result in a raft of new orange barrels, barricades, and some lane closures for motorists in the Buchanan and Paw Paw neighborhoods beginning next Monday. Business transportation managers will want to alert fleet drivers and other commercial transport teams to avoid surprises and delays, while motorists will need to know to avoid delays in everyday routines as well.

For travelers of US-31 near Buchanan, the Michigan Department of Transportation will be cleaning and painting the US-31 bridges over the St. Joe River. That project will result in single lane closures from Monday's start, on April 18th through the estimated end date of the project of Friday, November 4th.

MDOT spokesman Nick Schirripa says his colleagues will be grinding three miles of Eastbound I-94 between Mile Markers 58 and 61 near Paw Paw to improve the driving surface there. Construction on that project includes installing grooves in the pavement to help keep moisture off of the road surface as well as join sealing.

The Paw Paw project on EB-94 will result in single lane closures largely at night-time for the duration beginning Monday, April 18th with a projected finish date by Friday, May 27th.

These projects are in addition to other MDOT spring and summer work in other already identified areas, including a major stretch of I-94 in all lanes between Stevensville and Bridgman which began last month. That project is completely re-paving that stretch of the highway and already has a number of barricades in place.

As always, MDOT and police authorities ask you to drive safely in construction zones and Give 'em a Brake!
