Meeting held as St. Joseph looks to install wayfinding signs for visitors

The public was invited to a gathering in St. Joseph on Tuesday to offer input as the city works to develop wayfinding signs to be posted throughout town for visitors. It’s working with Corbin Design out of Traverse City to create the signage that will guide drivers and pedestrians alike to attractions like the beaches, the lighthouse, parks, and parking. Corbin’s Jeff Frank tells us there will be custom-designed signs all over the city to give people clear directions.

“There are going to be versions of these all the way through,” Frank said. “Smaller, larger, simpler, kiosks. There will be guides that might be mounted to existing light poles. There will be some parking guides. Just a lot of different sign types.”

Themes for the signs focus on local history, industry, and the lighthouse. Visitors to Tuesday’s meeting got to see renderings of each. One of those themes will be chosen and details like color schemes will be developed throughout the summer. Frank said they may also come up with names for specific parking lots so people can remember where they parked. A presentation with a final design will be made to the city commission in the fall.
