2022 welcomes National Geographic Live back to the Mendel Center at Lake Michigan College for a year of exciting events. Tuesday, January 11th invites award-winning photographer Stever Winter to introduce ‘On The Trail of Big Cats’, his work showcasing the lives of big cats and his mission to help save them. Rare snow leopards, jaguars, and cougars alike are on the verge of extinction, and Steve has worked for decades to capture their beauty. The show begins at 7pm, and tickets can be purchased on their website, themendelcenter.com. This show is also being offered as a Live Steam Event.

The Mendel Center became an official National Geographic Live Venue in 2020, and has since seen such performances as ‘Life On Other Planets’, which explored the ideas of astrobiologists, planetary scientists, and NASA engineers about sustaining life on other planets, and ‘The Feats of Filmmaking’, showcasing how dangerous and nearly-impossible shots are achieved by the world’s most elite adventurers.

Monday, January 17th kicks off the first event of a week-long celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr., that will be offered virtually. This free live stream event will share an invocation by Pastor Mcaffee, and keynote speech by Dr. Lynn Todman that will take place from 9am – 10:30am. The theme, ‘I Have A Dream 2022: The Fierce Urgency of Now’, will include presentations from community leaders, and will be followed by other events later in the week. You can register here.

Beginning Monday January 3rd, the Mendel Center will have expanded box office hours, with someone available from 10am – 6pm during the week. To stay updated with events and offerings, visit their website to join their mailing list.
