Michigan Manufacturers Have a New Association Leader in Lansing

There’s a new sheriff in town for the manufacturing industry across Michigan, and he brings a broad array of experience to the job as he takes the helm at the Michigan Manufacturers Association.

John J. Walsh is the Association’s new President & CEO, after he took the reins last back on January 6th, replacing the retired Chuck Hadden.

Walsh was previously the president of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, but he also holds a wealth of experience in both the Executive and Legislative branches of state government with roles as State Budget Director, Director of Strategic Policy under the Snyder Administration and as a three-term member of the House of Representatives. Prior to his time in public service, Walsh served as an executive at Schoolcraft College and enjoyed a successful legal career in Southeast Michigan.

Former State Rep. Al Pscholka of Stevensville, who also served as State Budget Director and now works with local manufacturers in his role at the Kinexus Group, says of Walsh, “I had the opportunity to serve with John and he is a strategic thinker, and knows how to get things done.” Pscholka served for four years with Walsh in the State House and Walsh succeeded Pscholka as State Budget Director.

Walsh says, “No other state lives and breathes manufacturing like Michigan and I expect the industry’s next chapter to be even brighter as we continue to innovate, invest and create jobs,” and adds, “I look forward to the chance to meet with MMA’s thriving membership and discuss the steps needed to continue moving the industry toward ever better days.”

Walsh succeeds Chuck Hadden in the role. Hadden, who served as President & CEO since 2008, retired at the end of 2019 following more than 25 years with MMA.

For his part, Hadden says, “I applaud the MMA Board of Directors for this choice. John’s reputation for integrity and coalition-building will aid MMA in moving forward as it enters a new decade with new challenges,” and concludes, “I look forward to seeing the great things the Association will achieve under his leadership.”

For nearly 120 years, the MMA has been serving Michigan manufacturers and related industries by providing effective representation at Michigan’s Capitol, timely educational seminars, quality and competitive-rate insurance programs, informational e-newsletters and a monthly magazine.
