Michigan Residents Can Start Filing Taxes Monday

Michigan taxpayers can begin to file their state individual income tax returns on Monday. The Michigan Department of Treasury says individuals can file their state income tax return online, with a tax professional, or by mailing in paper forms. All state of Michigan income tax returns and payment of any taxes must be received by April 18. The state requires all employers to mail out previous year wage statements – W-2s and 1099s – to their employees by January 31. Treasury advises everyone to take their time when filing because taxpayers who rush to file without all the necessary paperwork will need to file an amended return later. Both the beginning and end of the individual income tax filing season are the same as the Internal Revenue Service, meaning you can also start doing your federal taxes on Monday.
