Motorcyle/Semi Crash in Oronoko Township Claims a Life

An Oronoko Township collision between a motorcycle and a semi at the intersection of E. Lemon Creek Road and Lauer Road Tuesday evening has claimed the life of the motorcyclist according to Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Police Chief Paul Toliver.

Toliver says his department was called out just minutes after 5pm Tuesday evening to the scene of the crash. Upon arrival, officers found that an east bound motorcycle, operated by 41 year old Robert Allen Lucas of Berrien Springs, had collided with a semi at that intersection. The semi, operated by 44 year old Timothy Allen Gallo of Demotte, Indiana, was west bound and turning south onto Lauer Road.

Robert Lucas, the motorcyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. His family has been notified. Gallo, the semi driver, was not injured in the crash.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team is reconstructing the crash, and further information will be made available following completion of that investigation.

Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police were assisted at the scene of the crash by the  Baroda Lake Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team, the Berrien County Weighmaster, and Medic 1 Ambulance.
