Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad is inviting everyone out to Jean Klock Park this Saturday for the Benton Harbor Community Reunion, a day to celebrate the city, its people, and its beach.
Muhammad tells us they’ll have food trucks and a spirit of camaraderie along the shore of Lake Michigan.
“Benton Harbor is celebrating its 160th year as a city or municipality, and I think it’s a great time to be festive and utilize the crown jewel of Southwest Michigan, which is Jean Klock Park,” Muhammad said.
Muhammad says Jean Klock Park has had a deep historical attachment to Benton Harbor ever since John Klock and his wife, Carrie, deeded the land to the city in 1917 so it could be used in perpetuity by the citizens.
“We just want to rekindle, revive, and remind residents that this beach is for you and your mayor is inviting you to come out and maximize its use.
Muhammad tells Benton Harbor residents that Jean Klock Park is theirs to enjoy. All are invited to the park this Saturday during its regular hours of 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Muhammad also notes that any city resident can get a free pass to Jean Klock Park by registering through the city water department.
