Napier Avenue Bridge Gets Temporary Lane Reconfiguration Next Week

If your daily travels take you over the St. Joseph River on Napier Avenue, be prepared for a temporary lane reconfiguration coming next week due to a project involving a utility contractor working there for about two weeks.

Beginning next Monday, February 1st and running tentatively through Friday, February 12th the work in St. Joseph Township will entail a utility contractor who will be doing work on the Napier Avenue Bridge. The work taking place beginning Monday is in preparation for the Berrien County Road Department’s bridge project set to take place in 2021. As a result, there will be a temporary lane reconfiguration for traffic along Napier Avenue between Langley Avenue and Miami Road. All traffic will be routed to the eastbound lanes, separated by traffic control devices.

There will be traffic restrictions during construction, with Napier Avenue offering just one lane of traffic permitted in each direction between Langley and Miami. Both eastbound and westbound traffic will be split in the two lanes normally carrying eastbound traffic over the Napier Bridge.

Work is estimated to take approximately two weeks to complete, and everyone is reminded to expect possible travel delays. Additionally, there will be reduced speeds through the work zone, and you are cautioned to watch out for construction workers and equipment on the bridge throughout the project period.
