New Baroda Farmers Market Adds Unique Elements Weekly

When is a farmers market more than just a farmers market? Well, if you’re Christina and Mike Price of Baroda the answer is elementary — every weekend. The Price family has created the new Baroda Farmers Market this season, and they’re always punching things up with a little something extra. By way of example this week they’re adding in a Car Show on Sunday, and at the end of July they’re hosing a Farmers Tractor Show at the market.

The Baroda Farmers Market started on Mother’s Day weekend and will run every weekend from now through October 14th on both Saturday and Sunday each week from 9am until 2pm.

The market is family owned and operated by the Price family and is hosted on a 10-acre parcel that they lease from Lakeshore High School in the field at the end of 2nd & 3rd Streets in the Village of Baroda.

Christina tells me, “We focus on supporting local farmers such as ourselves as well as small business owners, crafters, bakers, pastry-makers, stay at home moms and small chain businesses.” She admits that the Baroda market, “Is definitely a smaller market with an average of about ten vendors each day, but we are working really hard to make a successful farmers market for our community.”

Sunday’s market, June 24th, will feature a free Open Car Show for anyone who has a car, truck or bike they’d like to show off. On her Facebook fan page Christina told folks, “Expect a vast variety of vehicles, a big turnout, and lots of laughs and fun in the sun with family and friends.” That show will also feature lunch and breakfast provided by Sammy Arepas Latin Flavor Food Truck and live music by Tim Andrews as well as DJ music. Car Show participants are asked to enter the market on 2nd Street.

Also back by popular demand this weekend are the baby goats from Double J Farms of Baroda. They have been a huge hit and they’ll be back both tomorrow and Sunday for this weekend’s marketplace.

Christina is now recruiting local farmers and tractor owners who would like to show off their machines at the July 28th market. Set-up that morning will begin at 8am, and its another free event for participants. If you plan to show your tractor, Christina would like to hear from you by phone at 574-386-2321 or via e-mail at BarodaFarmMarket@gmail.com. You can also send her a text if you wish.
