Niles Main Street Joins Social Media Push to Shop Local for Holidays

Another component of the Support Local campaign getting underway in earnest in this holiday season is stepping out on Main Street in Niles as they take up a social media campaign to share the message.

As the statewide social media campaign kicks off to help area shoppers focus their holiday gift-buying on local businesses, Niles businesses will be using the hashtag #ShopSmallOnMainSt, along with multiple other Michigan Main Street communities helping spread the word in their home towns about the benefits of shopping local.

The #ShopSmallOnMainSt social campaign will formally launch this Saturday, “Small Business Saturday,” November 28th. The campaign is designed to help local retailers leverage the power of social media to build enthusiasm for shopping with Niles-based businesses.

Local business owners are among the most creative marketers, and their enthusiasm for reaching customers online is contagious. Small Business Saturday is a meaningful way for the community to support small businesses through shopping, ordering take out and sharing their experiences on social media.

Plus, in the midst of the global pandemic, social media is flexible in connecting local shoppers with local businesses.

In addition to Niles, at least 24 Michigan Main Street communities are expected to participate in #ShopSmallOnMainSt in 2020. Main Street communities stand out through their dedication to building stronger communities and preservation-based economic development.

The Niles Main Street effort reflects that dedication to community, as the social media initiative was created to promote their dedication side-by-side with the “shop local” message.  Information about the local Main Street campaign can be found at this link:  https://www.facebook.com/downtownniles
