Tom Armon spent thirty-five years rattling around in the corporate world before he finally got smart and stepped away from the computer to embark on a journey he had only dreamed about before. Having been perpetually attracted to the St. Joseph waterfront, Tom discovered a way to get everyone onto the water without the hassles of having to own their own boat.

Armon and his wife Joan celebrated the ribbon-cutting on their new franchise venture Friday evening at the marina alongside The Inn at Harbor Shores. Their new Freedom Boat Club essentially allows anyone to have instant access to a variety of watercraft anytime they decide to hit the water, event in vacation venues elsewhere in the nation.

Freedom Boat Club is the oldest, largest and original boat club first established in 1989. The goal is to provide an "affordable alternative" and the freedom from the typical requirements of boat ownership.

In addition to Armon's franchise at The Inn at Harbor Shores Marina and in Washington Park in Michigan City, Indiana, Freedom Boat Club operates out of 110 locations around the nation. The unique club provides programs for individuals, families and even corporations interested in having access to the water.

Joan Armon says, "We are former boat owners that spent many years boating these very waters with our family. We are passionate about enabling more people to get out on the water to create their own memories with family and friends." She calls The Inn & Marina at Harbor Shores "home," and adds it "offers our members world class amenities in great boating country."

Watercraft in the Freedom Boat Club line-up are available in St. Joseph from April 1st to November 1st, operating 7-days a week from sunrise to sunset, while around the country members can continue to boat in warm weather climates virtually year round.

St. Joseph Mayor Mike Garey welcomed the Armons and their new venture at Harbor Shores and was genuinely intrigued by the entire concept calling it "amazing," and "very cool." The ribbon cutting ceremony was arranged by Cornerstone Chamber of Commerce and the Armons were presented with a congratulatory resolution by Adam Mensinger from State Senator John Proos office in Lansing.
