Berrien County bicycling club the Pachyderm Pedalers are planning their next Beer:30 Bicycle Tour for next month.
Pedalers President Greg Collins tells us this is the eighth year for the event, which will feature hundreds of bicyclists taking a roughly 30-mile ride to several breweries around the county. He says they’ll start at Red Coach Donuts in Stevensville and then hit up Watermark Brewing Company, Round Barn Public House, Transient Artisan Ales, the SideYard, Haymarket Brewery, and Peat’s Cider Social.
“All the breweries and stops are really excited over the years,” Collins said. “They’ve gotten more excited over the years about participating with us because of the fun atmosphere that the cyclists bring to each location.”
Collins says Beer:30 typically attracts around 250 riders, and they’re hoping for more this year. Their route will take them along country roads throughout Berrien County, hopefully avoiding much traffic.
The whole day is a fundraiser for Cycle-Re-Cycle in Benton Harbor.
“We appreciate the mission that they have in providing bikes for lower income folks and providing teaching on how to repair bikes and maintaining bikes and just think that it’s a great community resource.”
The Beer:30 Bicycle Tour will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 12. It will end at noon with a post ride celebration at Watermark Brewing Company in Stevensville.
Collins notes that the 30-mile ride can be done at each rider’s preferred pace, so even less advanced bicyclists are invited to take part. Registrations are being taken online.
