Paquette Urges License Renewers: Make an SOS Appointment

Berrien County State Rep. Brad Paquette hopes that angry Facebook posts and frustrated Tweets bemoaning the ridiculously long waits for service at the Secretary of State’s Office for license tabs, plates and drivers licenses will become a thing of the past with the advent of the appointment process.

Paquette dispatched a message late last week encouraging residents to avoid protracted delays by taking advantage of the new efficiency measures undertaken by the Secretary of State.

Paquette says that his office received an email from the Michigan Department of State indicating that Berrien County residents can now make appointments at all Secretary of State Offices in a move designed to reduce wait times at the department of motor vehicles.

That measure is part of the greater effort to improve efficiency at SOS branches across the state.

Paquette says that previously, Berrien County residents were not able to schedule appointments with the SOS, although some have been successful in doing so in recent weeks.

He adds, “There’s nothing quite like the frustration that comes with waiting in an extremely long line at the Secretary of State’s office. This is a step in the right direction but there’s still more to be done to make things more efficient.” He adds, “I hope Secretary Benson will continue to reinstate measures put into place by the prior administration.”

Paquette said he hears from constituents regularly who are fed up with the wait time at the Secretary of State office and encourages residents to take advantage of the appointment program to help cut down on lines and reduce frustrations.

He suggests, “It’s an opportunity to eliminate a lot of headaches when it comes to the mundane process of renewing a driver’s license or transferring a vehicle title,” and concludes, “I encourage everyone to give it a try and make an appointment next time they need to head to the SOS.”
