PechaKucha Vol. 24 on May 12th

The 24th Southwest Michigan PechaKucha presentation will take place on Thursday, May 12th, at the new Union+Social Event Venue on Court Street in St. Joseph. A collaboration between the Krasl Art Center, Union+Social, and many volunteers, this event series is one of the many highlights of our area.

The 24th installment, however, brings something new to the evening’s activities: a strolling dinner and an after party! Though the Union+Social Event space offers a much larger capacity, with 160 guests allowed in this modern, exposed-brick entertainment room, this event is expected to sell out: buy your tickets soon.

Presentations begin at 7 p.m, and the doors open at 6 p.m. for social hour with the presenters. A cash bar will be available, and the entertainment will conclude at 9 p.m., leading into the after party. Each story teller will have exactly 400 seconds to share their slides and prose– twenty images for twenty seconds each.

PechaKucha originated in Tokyo, Japan, created by architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, with the desire that people would ‘talk less, show more.’ PechaKucha means “chit-chat”, and is “a fun and communal event spent engaging with local artists and community members”. Since its debut in 2003, PechaKucha has taken the world by storm, with communities rallying together to present in over 1200 cities, in over 140 countries. Chosen topics are up to each presenter, and limited only to their imagination.

The Krasl Art Center and other coordinators of this event will announce parking information, strolling dinner menu, covid protocols, and the list of presenters in April, so be sure to find the event on Facebook to follow updates.
