Public Works Projects Peppered Through South Haven Starting Next Week

While the Memorial Day weekend should provide free wheeling for the most part in and around South Haven, visitors and residents alike will face several obstacles in the weeks ahead for several projects in and around the city beginning as early as next week.

South Haven City Engineer Mike Dopp says that construction on a Spring Paving Project on Pearl Street is just part of the action coming soon.

Dopp says construction on that project which will encompass Pearl Street from Erie Street to Church Street is anticipated to begin next Friday, May 31st.

The work will include replacement of the asphalt wearing surface including full depth from Erie St to Huron St, curb and gutter repairs, minor sidewalk repairs, and other minor improvements.

Dopp reports that during construction, the streets will remain open to local traffic, however minor traffic disruptions will occur on the days that the old asphalt is removed and on the days when new asphalt is being installed. If concrete curb & gutter is being replaced at a driveway approach, the owner will be notified by the contractor or a city representative in advance.

All major work on Pearl is expected to be completed by June 28th and final restoration is to be completed by July 3rd, 2019.

Any questions regarding the project may be directed to City Engineer Mike Dopp at 269-637-0776 or mdopp@south-haven.com.

Also on the agenda, Huron Street in South Haven will be closed to thru traffic from Center Street to School Street starting next Tuesday, May 28th and reopening approximately Tuesday, June 11th.  Compton, Inc will be removing asphalt and concrete, placing conduits for electric and telecommunications, and placing new concrete and asphalt to finish the job.

Then Huron will be closed to thru traffic from Center Street to Kalamazoo Street on Thursday, May 30th and Friday, May 31st, as Compton will be removing asphalt & concrete there, placing conduits for electric and telecommunications, and placing new concrete & asphalt to finish the job.

Also, during that time, City of South Haven Electric Crews will be placing underground electric lines in the new conduits and placing electric equipment.

On yet another front, Downtown Development Director Deb Davidson says that Compton, Inc will be replacing several sections of concrete at the South Beach area from next Tuesday, May 28th to June 4th, resulting in some parking spaces potentially closed during that time for construction equipment.
