While everybody wants to play personal information close to the vest, when emergency conditions are on the doorstep of your business or home, you likely want first-responders to have all the potential information they need to save your life, your family, your home or your business from disaster. Thanks to enhanced capabilities, Berrien County 911 Centers can now stockpile that critical information to potentially save life, limb and property.
The advent of Smart911 and RAVE Facility services across the county can now provide the 911 Centers with registered profiles of your family and/or your business though Internet-based data linked to 911 centers nationwide.
Fortunately for all of us, the cost of this service to local 911 centers is currently being allocated through an appropriation facilitated by key Michigan legislators and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, for a period of eighteen (18) months.
Citizens are encouraged to register to build their own personal and household profiles on “Smart911.com” and can do so at any time at no charge. Businesses may register their facility profiles at “RAVEFacility.com.” Profiles are stored on a secure hosted site provided by Rave Mobile Safety. The information contained in the secure profiles is only made available to a participating 911center when you call 911.
Smart911 profiles are most useful with:
- Location details, especially when the address is not readily known
- Identify residents and provide special needs/medical condition details
- Pinpoint access drives and entry points, gate combinations, lock box/key locations, medical equipment locations, emergency utility shut-offs, etc.
- Building floor plans and Hazardous Material lists/locations
- Linking phone numbers to a specific address (home, school, work)
- Quickly sharing missing person identification information, descriptions, and photos
- Contacts and key-holder information
- Use Smart911 to replace antiquated Berrien County “911 Information Forms”
TEXT-to-911: Smart911 profiles may only be delivered to Dispatch Centers as the result of a voice 911 call, at this time. Callers that are hearing/speech impaired, or in a situation where they cannot speak openly, are encouraged to use Text-to-911.
