Road Resurfacing Starts Monday in Van Buren

Just hours after the last of your Easter ham gets dispatched to the leftover bin and the jelly beans are put away for another day there’s a fair chance you’ll run into a few traffic slowdowns in Van Buren County next week. Crews at the Michigan Department of Transportation will have the traffic cones and Work Zone signs in place as work gets launched on a pair of projects costing nearly $2-million overall.

MDOT crews will be resurfacing 2.6 miles of southbound I-196 near South Haven, between County Road 380 and County Road 378 in Van Buren County, beginning on Monday, April 17th with a targeted completion day of Friday, May 19th. That project is pegged at $690,000, and authorities caution you to anticipate daily single lane closures which will be necessary in order to complete the project in a timely manner. Also starting on Monday, the Michigan Department of Transportation will be repaving 7.5 miles of M-40 in Van Buren County, from M-43 to the Allegan County line. Cost of that project is pinned at $1.3-million and it is slated to be completed by Thursday, May 18th.

As in the case of the I-196 construction, there will be single-lane closures during construction with a flagging crew to help maneuver motorists through the Work Zones.
