SBN Adds Second United Flight to NY

Just 18 months after adding nonstop air service to New York/Newark, South Bend International Airport officials say a second daily frequency will begin this fall from the airport to and from Newark Liberty International Airport.

SBN Executive Director Mike Daigle says the added flight a direct result of the success of flights begun in October of 2014. He says, "I've said it over and over; a community receives the air service it supports. This is a prime example of that statement." He adds, "We are thrilled to make this announcement and thank all of you for your continued support."

The second daily United Airlines flight to Newark will fly beginning September 7th through December 15th with daily flights from the eastern seaboard departing Newark at approximately 2:45pm and arriving at South Bend International at 5pm. The daily return from SBN to Newark will depart at roughly 5:20pm, arriving on the east coast at 7:20pm.

ExpressJet will operate the flights using ERJ-145 regional jet aircraft with 50 United Economy seats. The aircraft pictured above, as captured by photographer Timothy Powaleny at Boston Logan, is the style of aircraft to be used on the route. Tickets for service beginning this fall are now available for purchase online at www.United.com.

United's Sales Manager Kimberly Egan says, "One of the ways we are becoming the airline South Bend customers choose first, is by delivering the products and services they want. Our second daily service between South Bend and New York/Newark offers numerous opportunities for domestic and international travel."

United Express began nonstop service to Newark from SBN in October of 2014, with current daily flights departing South Bend at approximately 6:35am daily and a nightly return at approximately 10:15pm.

AirTrain Newark provides quick and easy connections to and from NJ TRANSIT, PATH, and Amtrak through Newark Liberty International Airport Station. Travel times to popular New York City destinations are 30-minutes via NJ TRANSIT to New York Penn Station and 40 minutes via PATH/NJ TRANSIT to World Trade Center. Philadelphia is 70-minutes via Amtrak.
