Sewer Repair Brings SJ Detour

Flag Day commuters will be greeted by detour flags tomorrow and Wednesday for a portion of the I-94 Business Loop, also known as Lakeshore Drive, due to impending sanitary sewer repairs that need to be made.

The map shown below details the portion of the roadway that will be impacted by the repair process beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14th and running through Wednesday, June 15th.

Michigan Department of Transportation officials say that northbound I-94BL (Lakeshore Drive) will be closed and detoured at Archer Avenue, and southbound traffic on the route will have a lane shift between Central Avenue and Archer Avenue in the city of St. Joseph during the down time.

Ideally, those headed northbound should take Hilltop Road east to M-63 (Niles Avenue) to skirt the impacted area, especially if your destination is anywhere from the Uptown neighborhood at Niles and Main on north to downtown St. Joseph or beyond to the Edgewater areas and to the Whirlpool Ad Center. Keep in mind that the stretch of M-63 north of the Blossomland Bridge is also impacted by lane closures due to concrete joint sealing as was detailed in my earlier report last week which can be found at this link:

Here is the MDOT map for this week's activity on BL-94 south of downtown:
