SJ Agency Wins International Award for Crisis Management

St. Joseph marketing expert Coleen King is a living, breathing antithesis of Hollywood’s Susan Lucci. That long running daytime drama actress was a perennial also-ran when it came to Emmy awards, finally winning one on her 19th nomination. King, on the other hand, is one of the most prolific award winners in the world of public relations, and she has another trophy to prove it.

King, who serves as President and Founder of King Media of St. Joseph, East Lansing and Grand Rapids, is certainly accustomed to international recognition for her agency’s work in branding and marketing, but the full-service agency has recently built a name for itself by helping clients through crisis situations. Last week, on November 20, 2019, King accepted a first-place crisis management award from PR News. It marks the agency’s 25th international award since 2015. That’s a profound average of five a year and running.

Addressing her firm’s most recent award, Coleen says, “In a crisis situation, every second counts, but it’s the work we put in before a crisis arises that makes us the most effective partners for our clients. We use research and build relationships to gain an in-depth knowledge of our clients, their industries and their communities. Every situation has a different dynamic, but our research-based approach means we’re prepared for anything.”

King was recognized at the PR News Agency Elite Luncheon in New York, alongside global agencies who are quickly getting used to the presence of a boutique firm from Michigan in their midst. Despite having a coast-to-coast footprint throughout her extensive media career, King prefers to focus on growing Michigan companies, strengthening local communities and making a positive difference.

She tells us, “I’ve had many opportunities to work on the coasts, but my heart is in Michigan, and nothing gives me greater joy than seeing how our work benefits people and places close to home.”

The first-place award, along with an honorable mention in integrated communications, recognizes King Media’s work with Grand Haven Area Public Schools. King Media serves as the schools’ communication and marketing team, handling everything from public relations and crisis communication to strategic marketing and advertising in support of district goals.

In addition to King Media’s first place Agency Elite Award from PR News, the agency received an honorable mention for crisis management at the Platinum PR Awards earlier this year. King and her team have also shared their expertise in crisis communication strategies as conference presenters for the Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators and the Michigan Association of School Boards.

King Media is a full-service marketing, advertising, public relations and digital media agency that creates change for companies and organizations of all sizes, in all industries. King Media has three offices – St. Joseph, East Lansing and Grand Rapids – with a coast-to-coast footprint. Additional services and case studies can be found online at the link below:
