If you’ve been waiting for 80-degree temperatures on a summer Saturday before breaking out your Topsiders, get ’em ready. This Saturday, the St. Joseph River Yacht Club throws open the doors to members and visitors alike, including the general public, as they play host to the 2019 SSYC Queen’s Cup Race Finish Party featuring live music from local favorites P.S. Dump Your Boyfriend.
Yacht Club organizers are happy that summer is finally here and they invite you to celebrate the 81st sailing of the SSYC Queen’s Cup Race this Saturday, June 29th. You can join in at the club for a full day and night of food, libations, dockside camaraderie, and live musical entertainment by the legendary P.S. Dump Your Boyfriend.
The Queen’s Cup Trophy is one of the oldest cups in world yachting still offered for competition every year. Its history dates back to an age when both British Victorian silverwork and sailing yachts were without rival anywhere.
This year’s night race across Lake Michigan departs Friday, June 28th, from Milwaukee’s South Shore Yacht Club (SSYC) for St. Joseph. Boats will arrive in St. Joe on Saturday, June 29th, with the times of arrival varying based on the size of the boat, weather conditions, and skill of the crew.
On Saturday, June 29th, the City of St. Joseph welcomes the sailors who will enjoy their afternoon at the St. Joseph River Yacht Club, wandering the streets and shops of the beautiful town, or if it was a long and rough night, simply recovering from the rigors of the race.
St. Joe race festivities begin Saturday, June 29th, with a traditional brunch at 10:30 am and transition to lunch until 2:00 pm ET. A dinner including beef brisket and pulled chicken is served from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm when P.S. Dump Your Boyfriend takes the main stage and keeps the party going until midnight. Organizers encourage everyone to get ready for a great night of outdoor music and dancing.
Food and drink tickets for the Queen’s Cup Race Party can be purchased at the door of the St. Joseph River Yacht Club. There will be a $5 cover charge after 7:30 pm for non-members. It’s your chance to celebrate one of the most storied yacht races on the Great Lakes at one of Southwest Michigan’s biggest entertainment events of the year.

The Queen’s Cup Race Party is driven by local SJRYC volunteers who donate many hours to assure the celebration maintains its reputation as the waterside destination in Southwest Michigan. The crowds of people that come to see the boats and enjoy the overall atmosphere help shape a great evening.
