South Bend Int’l Airport Hosting Master Plan Update Public Open House

The future direction of South Bend International Airport will come under the microscope during a public Open House next week when the owners and operators of the airfield, the St. Joseph County Airport Authority (SJCAA), share an update on the airport’s ongoing Master Plan Study.

The Open House will take place next Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the upstairs Atrium east of the Delta ticket counter of the airport’s commercial terminal building located at 4477 Progress Drive in South Bend.

The Open House will be an opportunity for the public to learn about the airport’s ongoing Master Plan Study and examine the progress of the study to date. An opportunity will also be available for the public to provide comments concerning the project and the airport’s future direction. There is no formal presentation planned, so those planning to attend are invited to arrive any time during the window of time set aside for the open house. Those who go will be able to view presentation materials at their own pace and ask questions of the Airport Authority staff and consultants who will be on hand for the occasion.

In accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) decrees, those who take part will be required to wear masks while in the terminal building.

The Open House will provide information on the following topics:

  • Overview of SBN’s master plan study and purpose
  • Critical aircraft discussion
  • Future facility needs at SBN
  • Improvement options under consideration

Comments and suggestions received during the Open House are to be evaluated by the project team and incorporated into the study as appropriate. The proposed improvements are intended to achieve compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations and to meet the existing and projected aviation needs of the region.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals needing special accommodations (including auxiliary communicative aids and services) during the Open House should notify Mr. Tim O’Donnell, Vice President of Operations for the SJCAA, at 574-282-4590 ext. 236 or todonnell@sbnair.com at least three days prior to the meeting. Elevator access to the second floor is available.

Attendees may park in the short- or long-term parking lots, and parking will be validated for all attendees.
