They’ll cut the ribbon Friday on the first major downtown investment seen in South Haven in the last decade.

The team at A.J. Veneklasen, Inc. has completed the $4.5-million mixed-use development on Center Street in downtown South Haven after launching the project on a vacant lot last spring, and will hold a Grand Opening tomorrow, Friday, November 22nd at 1:15pm.

Called the South Haven Center, the project at 335 Center Street features an 18-unit apartment community, which is already home to several new residents. It anchors the corner of Center and Huron Streets in the heart of South Haven’s central business district.

Veneklasen will be joined by the City of South Haven and other local representatives for the ribbon cutting tomorrow afternoon. The project offers high-end amenities at market-rate value, with one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 630 to 920 square feet each. Pricing ranges from $1,400 t0 $1,850 at the South Haven Center.

Chris Veneklasen is President at A.J. Veneklasen, Inc. He says he undertook the project because of South Haven’s “highly attractive location for prospective renters and retailers.” The site is less than a five-minute stroll from the lake shore and is centrally located along a popular walking corridor.

In addition to the 18 apartment units, South Haven Center also offers 2,400 square feet of available retail space, considered to be ideal for any type of retailer or restaurant property.

The center will be operated for Veneklasen by Gardner Management Company. John Novak from Gardner says, “We are delighted to manage the newest premier apartment community in the heart of beautiful South Haven, Michigan.”

Grand Rapids-based R2 Design Group designed the building which is shown in the architectural rendering accompanying this story on Moody on the Market.

Financing partners on the project were First National Bank and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), which provided a $750,000 performance-based grant through the Michigan Community Revitalization Program.
