Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra Announces Its 2022 Summer Beach Series

The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra has announced the lineup for its 2022 Summer Concert Series. We asked the SMSO to tells us the full story:

Not only does Southwest Michigan have the best beaches for both residents and visitors to enjoy, but it also is known for incredible musical experiences. The Southwest Symphony Orchestra announces its 2022 Summer Season which will inevitably provide people with new and lasting memories.

Featured at our July 16 concert will be our former Music Director Robin Fountain! Robin announced his retirement during the 2019-2020 season and the SMSO had planned a farewell concert for him in April 2020, however, the pandemic and its accompanying restrictions over the last two years prevented that from happening. Now, the symphony and the community will finally be able to congratulate him on his retirement and thank him for his years of service to the symphony and the community. Make sure to join us as we wish Robin the best at the My Favorite Things – Celebrating Julie Andrews concert.

Independence Celebration –
Sunday, July 3, 2022 8:30pm

Our annual concert highlights the celebration of America’s birthday. SMSO will play patriotic favorites, such as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, as fireworks light the sky above; a perfect way to end your Independence Day!

This enchanting show features favorite songs from the movie and Broadway career of Julie Andrews and will also include guest artists Diane Penning and Paul Langford. Patrons will recognize and enjoy some of the best-loved and iconic music ever written. This performance also will be the finale for the SMSO’s former Music Director Robin Fountain.

The songs for the concert, “Music for the Young at Heart” were chosen to delight all ages and to transport us all back to the enchanting years of our childhood as well as revel in watching a young child’s eyes light up as the music creates lasting memories for them. Music from Star Wars and Frozen are bound to grab everyone’s attention and delight.

While some of our patrons may remember “Casey at the Bat,” they may also recognize the March from Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Muppet Medley. This fun, and family-friendly concert will provide entertainment for all ages.
