Stevensville’s Williams Buildings Takes U.S. Building of the Year Award

Over the past 41 years Marc Williams and his dad before him have built churches, aircraft hangars, and even added onto residential homes, but the building they built for their own commercial headquarters at Williams Buildings has just brought them exceptional pride and nationwide recognition as the 2019 Building of the Year in the Expert Division of the National Frame Building Association.

Twenty-three years ago, Marc joined the company created by his father, Dave Williams, and now is the owner of Williams Buildings which was cited last week at the National Frame Building Association Expo in Des Moines, Iowa. The ceremonies on February 26th recognize Williams Buildings’ craftsmanship, design, and overall quality construction of their commercial headquarters located at 4465 Red Arrow Highway in Stevensville. The award-winning structure also provides affordable office and warehouse space for five other businesses.

Marc credits his father and a solid professional network for the award, telling us, “My Dad started this company in the basement when I was just a kid with a paper route. Over the years I witnessed that his success relied on many variables, least of all hard work and client satisfaction. But none of us got here alone. I have to thank the people and organizations that have supported us along the way. Partners like Edgewater Bank and vendor suppliers like Schultz Roofing, Zeeland Lumber and Big C Lumber. These, in addition to my employees, are the relationships that have helped us get to this stage.”

The business incubator nature of their headquarters building is not the first time they have created that sort of atmosphere. They tried out that model 15 years ago with a project in a Watervliet industrial park and another near the Grand Mere Inn further south from their current building on Red Arrow Highway in Stevensville around 2013.

Dave Williams discovered that concept in North Carolina many years ago and figured it would be a great prospect for our region, and his intuition has proven correct.

When Marc joined the team in the late 90s, Williams Buildings was producing some 12 to 15 buildings a year, but over the course of the years they’re well beyond 4,000 buildings and growing.

The National Frame Builders Association is a non-profit trade association that promotes the interests of the post-frame construction industry and its members that include builders, suppliers, design professionals, and structural engineers.

Williams Buildings is southwest Michigan and northwest Indiana’s premiere post frame builder for commercial, residential, agricultural, and equestrian buildings.  For more information you can visit online at this link: http://www.williamsbuildings.com
