Sturgis Bank Announces Several Promotions

At its annual Board of Directors meeting held in April, Sturgis Bank promoted several team members.  Eric Eishen, CEO of Sturgis Bank, said “On behalf of the board of directors, I am pleased to recognize these valued team members for their contributions to Sturgis Bank and for their service to our customers.  It is our people and our commitment to face-to-face service that sets us apart.”

José Santamaria was named Senior Vice President, Commercial Lender.  He joined the organization in 2018 as Commercial Lender was promoted to Vice President in 2019.  José has a Master of Business Administration from Western Michigan University and has worked in the banking industry for over 35 years. Most recently, he worked as Vice President, Senior Commercial Lender for Horizon Bank.  José is active in the Kalamazoo community, serving on the Board of Housing Resources, Inc. for over 25 years, currently as Treasurer. He also serves as Board President of Presbyterian Villages – The Village of Sage Grove, is a member of Portage Rotary Club, and is active with the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo.

Jason Riemens was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analyst.  Jason started his banking career in 1998.  He joined Sturgis Bank in 2020 as a Credit Analyst serving Kalamazoo County and southwest Michigan in Portage, Michigan.  Jason holds the Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Michigan, was a top student in the program’s history with a 4.0 GPA, and graduated with several honors.   Jason volunteers frequently for SPCA of Southwest Michigan and is a Head Coach for Challenger Little League (for special needs and disabled athletes).

Nick Barber was recently promoted to Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager of the Southwestern Market, inlcuding locations in St. Joseph and Niles.  Nick has over eight years’ experience working in the banking industry and joined Sturgis Bank in 2020.  Nick attended Central Michigan for two years where he studied business and journalism.

Amy Staples-Hicks was named Assistant Vice President, Senior Commercial Processor, and joined the organization in 2001.  She holds a Certificate of Office Administration Assistant from Glen Oaks Community College.

Matt Vizthum, was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Credit Analyst.  He started with the bank in 2014 and was promoted to credit analyst the next year.  Matt is a graduate of Glen Oaks Community College with an associate degree in General Studies, and received his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management at Spring Arbor University.
