The Lakeland Health Impact of 2016

All good companies take time out to assess where they're at, where they've been and where they're headed next, and Lakeland Health is no exception. As has become standard practice by the staff and board of the regional hospital organization, the Lakeland team recently published its corporate annual report for distribution to the community at large.

The comprehensive and colorful publication shares accomplishments of the past year through sections that give you the snapshot "by-the-numbers"-style as well as stories of the people, facilities and patients that showcase how caregivers have made a difference in patients' lives over the year.

There are lots of numbers for those who like to track things analytically, but perhaps the true eye-opener comes in the form of the eye-popping $24.1-million value placed on the community benefits provided by Lakeland as calculated in the most recent complete data available from fiscal year 2015. Those are benefits that traveled beyond traditional patient care to improve the quality of life in our region.

Some other numbers shared in the report:

  • 402,931 people visited the Lakeland Health website at least once in the past year…
  • 18,047 watched a "Get Fit in the Mitt" video online…
  • 66,579 people learned about important wellness topics through HealthCurrents magazine…
  • 897 lives were saved from blood donated during drives held at Lakeland facilities…
  • and many, many more numbers large and small…

The new annual corporate report also highlights Lakeland's efforts to improve care by embarking on the largest building project in the organization's history, engaging 1,300 area residents in a community health needs assessment, and collaborating with six other health systems throughout the state of Michigan as part of the clinically integrated network, Affirmant Health Partners.
