Therapeutic Equestrian Center faces unexpected move

The Therapeutic Equestrian Center is looking for a temporary home, while considering its long term plans for a permanent facility.  A statement from the group’s Board suggests the two-step move wasn’t in their original plans, but they’re confident they can deal with it and eventually grow the organization.

TEC’s stated mission is “to engage the power of horses to challenge, inspire and strengthen the bodies, minds and spirits of our participants.”   It’s been operating in rented space at the Stockbridge Equestrian Center on M-140 in Watervliet.

Here is the complete update from the Therapeutic Equestrian Center Board of Directors:

August 4, 2021

Dear TEC Family,

You may not know this but TEC’s current facilities are rented to us from the Stockbridge Equestrian Center.  The owners of Stockbridge have notified TEC that they have new plans for the barn we occupy.  This means TEC will be moving to a new location.  A timeline with details about the move is being developed and will be shared with everyone as soon as possible.  Please note that Camp TEC and our scheduled lessons for summer and fall will continue to take place at the current location – Stockbridge.

TEC’s Board of Directors wanted you to know that earlier this year TEC started working on a 5-year plan that includes obtaining property within a 10-mile radius from our current location and either building a new facility or remodeling an existing structure to be our forever home.  Recently, we were notified by a potential donor who is very interested in making a donation towards TEC’s own facility.  This donation alone we’ll get us started toward that goal but we will also need others to come forward to make this dream a reality.

Stockbridge requests that we move from their facility by the beginning of November.  Rest assured that TEC looks forward to a very busy, but great future in the tri-county area.  This bump in the road simply pushes TEC to move forward quicker than we had planned.  It will take some time not only to find the funding to have our own facility but also to have it be sustainable for years to come.  We will be looking for a temporary home until we can make our own facility a reality.

TEC recognizes how much our services mean to our participants and their families.  We are grateful for our volunteers, staff, donors, and extended family members who support TEC and its mission.  We look forward to all of us working together to determine where our future home will be.  Please visit us at www.tecfarm.org/tecisonthemove to stay up to date as we move toward finding our forever home.  You’re welcome to share your thoughts by contacting our Board President, Autumn Zick, at azicktec@gmail.com or calling (269) 429-0671.

Sincerely,

The TEC Board of Directors
