Time to Shut the Door on Hunger

Scrapper Matt spends a great deal of time in his truck, motoring around Michigan's Great Southwest, conducting the business of his Recycling Patrol. However, this weekend, in recognition of his own mantra that "We may not be able to change the world, but we can change the lives for some in our community," Matt will be picking up an entirely different collection and "recycling" the results into the Food Bank for the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency.

Matt Genovese is teaming up with The Village Thrift Shop in Stevensville this Friday and Saturday for a major league effort to fill the food pantry to the rafters and beyond, through a special food drive they are collectively calling Operation Shut the Door on Hunger.

Friday, June 10th from 10am until 7pm and Saturday, June 11th from 10am until 6pm, The Village Thrift Shop at 2638 W. John Beers Road in Stevensville will act as the drop off point for anyone and everyone who would like to swing by with non-perishable food items and other personal care products as shared below. These are some of the items pinpointed by the warehouse team at the Southwest Community Action Agency as in short supply:

  • Non-perishable food items…
  • Canned goods…
  • Boxed goods…
  • Baking products…
  • Personal care items…
  • Baby care products…
  • Paper products…

Mark Durocher of Y-Country Radio will be live from the scene on Friday from 4:30 to 6:30pm to help boost the drive in that hopes that everyone who can give a little can make a collective huge difference in the community.

The Recycling Patrol is ordinarily on the job with free haul-away service on all sorts of metals including aluminum, cast iron, steel, copper and more. Additionally, their business will take away anything with a cord on it for a simple fee of $5 whether it's one item or a bunch. They also offer to haul away junk by the trash load starting at just $30, and you'll earn a $10 gift coupon or a 10-percent discount coupon from The Village Thrift Shop when you have junk hauled away in that manner.

You can reach the Recycling Patrol at 269-369-1678…or follow them on Facebook.
