U.S. Army Corps Says Hit Me With Your Best Shot

The Army Corps of Engineers district office at Detroit knows that lots of you are taking photos all the time of the piers in St. Joe and South Haven, of freighters making their way into the local harbors, and other great photo ops involving their infrastructure and they hope you’re willing to share those pics with the Corps in exchange for a sweet spot on their 2020 calendar.

The victory can be a heady experience. Just ask Molly Pate whose image of a freighter sliding into the St. Joe River Channel was the image for April 2019, and Laurie Schmidtke, whose striking image of a full moon beyond the South Haven Pier head is next month’s image selected by the Army Corps for the month of June 2019. If you want to be a part of the competition, you’ll have to act fast.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, is inviting you to enter your photos of the such things as the local piers, the Soo Locks, the Duluth Ship Canal, any Army Corps pier, breakwater or any federal harbor on the Great Lakes into their annual calendar photo contest. Digital photo submissions are being accepted by email through June 2, 2019 at 11:59 pm. That means you have to respond by Sunday night.

Submitted photos will be uploaded to an album on the Detroit District’s Facebook page on Monday, June 3rd and open for public voting through “likes” until June 17th at 9:00 am. The top 12 photographers will have their photos included in a 2020 downloadable calendar and first, second and third place photographers will receive a plaque with their winning photo, provided by the Soo Locks Visitors Center Association.
