United Federal Members Step Up for Red Cross Assistance

One of the great strengths of a financial institution that is owned by the people it serves, the members, is the outstanding opportunity to step up and help the collective good of a community and the causes that they stand for. We’ve seen another prime example here in the heart of Michigan’s Great Southwest thanks to the people of United Federal Credit Union.

From September 20th to November 30th, 2017, United Federal Credit Union was matching online donations to the American Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts across the country. Contributors were offered a chance to direct their donation to Disaster Relief, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Forest Fires, and Where It’s Needed Most. UFCU committed to matching those donations dollar-for-dollar.

87 people donated online which resulted in UFCU President & CEO Terry O’Rourke presenting a check to the American Red Cross on January 19th, 2018, for $7,575.

O’Rourke says, “We are deeply honored that so many people participated and believe, as we do, in the work the American Red Cross does to help survivors cope with the devastation and loss that follow natural disasters. We have members in all of the affected areas and so we’re very aware of the impact these events have on a community.”

American Red Cross of Michigan Regional Philanthropy Officer Joseph Corrado says, “Thanks to all that partnered with United Federal Credit Union and the American Red Cross. Your support brought comfort and services to the millions touched by the hurricanes and fires last summer. Your partnership helped shelter, feed, clean up and support thousands of families that were impacted by the worst weather events in modern history!”
