The Berrien County Road Department will update the public on its plans for the reconstruction of Red Arrow Highway between Stevensville and Bridgman at a public meeting this week.

Road Department Managing Director Mark Heyliger tells us he’ll be at a Lincoln Township Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday to fill everyone in.

They’re having a special meeting and we’re one of several items,” Heyliger said. “We will offer a brief to the public of what’s going on and when that will happen.”

The road department is planning to resurface the road and reduce it from four lanes of travel to two lanes of travel with a center turn lane, something that’s drawn complaints in the past with other stretches of Red Arrow Highway. The project will also include drainage improvements and the construction of a non-motorized trail from the Bridgman city limits to the village limits of Stevensville.

Throughout the project, there will be lane closures on Red Arrow Highway between the Stevensville village limits and the Cook Plant. Work starts on June 8 and is expected to continue through November.

The township board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. Trustees will also consider several candidates to fill a vacancy on the board.
