Urban Garage Market in Benton Harbor is about to reopen at its new location in St. Joseph. The market’s Kelly Arent tells us Urban Garage Market, previously of 408 West Main Street in Benton Harbor, has been working since last March on renovating a former car wash at 807 Lester Street in St. Joseph into its retail space. They sell home décor, vintage items, and hand made crafts that include clothing and jewelry. Arent wanted to move to the new location so the business could have more space and also because she wanted to own the building. Urban Garage Market rented its previous location. Arent says preparing the new location was a “massive undertaking,” but “anything can be done.” As part of the renovations, she says a whole lot of concrete was brought in, one of the former car wash garage doors was replaced with a window, they took out walls, and they added an air conditioning system. When we spoke to her on Tuesday, the team was painting. The plan is to hold an opening at the new building next Saturday with some coffee and treats for customers.
