As work continues across the region to get fresh, healthy foods and nutritional information into the hands of people who frequently don’t have access to them, the Veggie Van is headed to downtown Benton Harbor next Tuesday with free offerings.

The Veggie Van, a mobile farmer’s market featuring locally grown, top-quality fruits and vegetables, will offer up free healthy foods and nutrition information from 11 am to 1 pm next Tuesday, April 20th at the Center for Better Health which is located at 100 W. Main Street in Benton Harbor.

The event will be held drive-through style and participants are asked to remain in their car to ensure proper social distancing. A total of 100 bags will be available on a first come, first serve basis that day, and free personal protective equipment kits will also be distributed.

The goal of the program is to ensure that fruits and vegetables are available to people who otherwise have limited access to fresh produce. The Veggie Van is made possible through the generosity of Spectrum Health and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids in partnership with Spectrum Health Lakeland and the YMCA of Greater Michiana.
