Video Arcade Games & Mother’s Day Gifts Coming to LMC Fab Lab Camps

Have you ever considered building your own retro style, table top video arcade game? Or maybe you’d like to consider making something unique as a gift for Mother’s Day this year. Either way, the amazing resources available at the Lake Michigan College Fab Lab are ready and waiting for you this spring.

Lake Michigan College Community Education is offering a new Fab Lab camp where families and individuals from age eight to 108 can build their own retro style, table top video arcade game, and they are also teeing up some gift creation ideas for mom.

Each Fab Lab video game camp includes four, three-hour evening sessions, scheduled Monday through Thursday, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm, making it convenient for working families to participate together. The first session runs May 14 – 17. Another is scheduled June 11 – 14.

The camp is ideal for Do-It-Yourselfers who long to relive the days of Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Frogger and Galaga, and perhaps share them with a new generation.

Participants don’t need any woodworking, game design or electrical experience. All materials are included, including pre-cut wood to customize as desired. Instructors will guide participants through each step, including the creation of the cabinet, wiring for speakers and power supply, and connecting the monitor, jamma board and joysticks.

Dozens of games are available, including Burger Time, Centipede, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Galaga, Ms. Pac-Man, Pinball Action and Space Invaders.
