West Michigan Tourist Association Photo Contest Down to Top 50

Ted Post was a pretty good cop in his career, but he’s proving to be a stellar photographer now that he has more leisure time on his hands. Post is well represented with three selections in the final 50 entries of the West Michigan Photo Contest, sponsored by the West Michigan Tourist Association headquartered in Grand Rapids.

Post’s colorful whirling representation of the Berrien County Youth Fair, as shown above, is one of three successful entries he submitted to the agency in their annual contest which is now open to public voting on Facebook to help determine the eventual winners. His other photos include a shot of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse and of Canyon Falls near Alberta, Michigan. A former St. Joseph police officer, Ted Post is a member of the Twin City Camera Club and his skills are readily evident in his entries.

Michigan’s Great Southwest is well represented in other ways in the contest, with Laurie Schmidtke, a Whirlpool employee from St. Joseph, successfully garnering three entries in the Top 50 including stunning photos of Silver Beach, 1st Street Beach in St. Joe and of the Whirlpool Compass Rose Fountain below the bluff.

Another three-peater is Jodi Byers who has a striking photo of the South Haven Lighthouse in winter, a small fox near Gobles, and a shot from the Palms Book State Park.

Angie Youngstedt of Stevensville has earned an entry in the Top 50 with a photo of action in the St. Joseph Junior Foundation sailing classes between the piers, and Miles Becher, Youth Pastor at the Napier Parkview Baptist Church in St. Joseph Township has a beautiful shot of a bending fishing rod off the St. Joe coastline for his entry.

The public is invited to vote on the Top 50 finalist photos in the West Michigan Photo Contest to help determine the winners.

The 2017 West Michigan Photo Contest received over 400 photo submissions showcasing West Michigan during the month of July, and WMTA has narrowed the entries down to the top 50 photos, which the public is invited to vote on to help select the winning photographs.

The top 50 photo entries are posted in a photo album on the West Michigan Facebook page. Visitors to the photo album may cast votes for any photos by “liking” or “reacting” to each photo. Votes may be cast for multiple photos.

Public voting is now open, and the winning photos will be announced on Thursday, August 17th, 2017.
