Whirlpool Ready to Unveil “The Eddy”

It was one of the most sought after perks a parent could ask for, and Whirlpool Corporation is ready to deliver. This Thursday, the appliance giant will roll open to the doors onto “The Eddy,” their brand spanking new, state of the art childcare facility on the Whirlpool Corporation’s Global Headquarters campus.

After years of planning and collaboration with their employees, Whirlpool Corporation is cutting the ribbon on their innovative on-site child care facility that they have nicknamed “The Eddy.”

The cutting-edge center was constructed on the campus of Whirlpool Corporation’s Global Headquarters along M-63 North, giving employees convenient access to their children. In fact, corporate officials tell us that employees are encouraged to observe class time, participate in special outings and events, and nurse in one of two private, comfortable mothers rooms.

The Eddy is designed to support working parents. The center is open to children or legal guardians (ages 6 weeks to 6 years) of Whirlpool Corporation employees and will be managed by KinderCare Education at Work.

As part of its continued commitment to create an attractive workplace, Whirlpool Corporation announced last fall that it would open an employer sponsored child care facility to help working Whirlpool Corporation parents in the local community, with considerably closer access to their children.

It all came as the result of a survey that Whirlpool conducted to more closely understand the childcare needs of its employees. The survey found that there was a significant need among employees’ families for an on-site employee child care facility in the Benton Charter Township-Benton Harbor-St. Joseph area.

Plans for the new on-site facility comprising some 21,600 square feet went before the Benton Township Planning Commission last September, and subsequently earned the approval of the Township’s Board of Trustees. Chief Human Resources Officer Carey Martin at that time called it “An exciting development for our employees,” adding, “World-class companies offer onsite employer-sponsored childcare and we made the decision that we should too. It’s important to our employees. The provider can match our hours of operation and offer the ability of our employees to see their children during the work day. We see this not only as an opportunity to support our existing employees, but to attract new talent to Whirlpool.”

A celebration is planned for the morning of Thursday, August 22nd, 2019. Speakers will include Whirlpool Corporation Chairman and CEO Marc Bitzer, Chief Human Resources Officer Carey Martin, and Project Lead Erin Schroeder.

The Eddy is located at 1900 Paw Paw Avenue in Benton Harbor on the Global Headquarters campus of Whirlpool Corporation.
