Armed Robber Hits Family Dollar

The first business day of the New Year got off to a shaky start for a Benton Harbor store thanks to the armed gunman who decided he wanted their cash early today.

Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety Officers were called out to the Family Dollar Store at 491 Pipestone this morning after the store was held up by black man of medium build and standing 5-foot-10 waved a handgun and demanded cash from the register. Wearing black jeans, a black jacket, a grey sweatshirt and some sort of cloth obstructing his face, the gunman left the building with a small amount of cash.

Authorities say that the scene was processed and forensic evidence was located, however they are asking that anyone having any information is asked to call Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety.

This incident is being investigated by Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety. BHDPS was assisted by Berrien County Sheriff’s Department with a K9 tracking dog.
