Sheriff Bailey Elected to State Board

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey had to appear recently before Michigan Supreme Court Justice Robert Young…but it was for a great reason. He was being sworn in to the role of Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Michigan Sheriff's Association for 2017.

Bailey was unanimously elected at the recent Michigan Sheriff's Association 2016 Fall Professional Development Conference. His term will begin on January 1st.

Michigan Sheriff's Association Executive Director Terrence Jungel says, “There is no greater honor than to be chosen by your peers to be their leader.” He adds, “Sheriff Bailey has earned the respect of his fellow Sheriffs as is evident by his selection to the Vice President’s position. His leadership comes at an important time in the Association’s and state’s history as we change both the Association and national leadership.”

Board officers elected at the Fall Conference include President Tim Donnellon who is Sheriff of St. Clair County, Vice President L. Paul Bailey our Berrien County Sheriff, and Secretary-Treasurer Pete Wallin who serves as Sheriff of Emmet County.

Immediate Past President of the statewide association is Crawford County Sheriff Kirk Wakefield. Other Sheriffs elected to serve on the Board include Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano, Sanilac County Sheriff Garry Biniecki, and Midland County sheriff Scott Stephenson.

The Michigan Sheriffs’ Association was established in 1877 to represent the state’s 83 elected Sheriffs and is the oldest Law Enforcement Organization in Michigan.  For more information or to join as a citizen member, you can visit the organization's website at www.misheriff.org.
