Taking Off the Uniform

For nearly ten years, Angie Hendrixson would don her uniform and pull her shift at Lakeland Health before she would venture off to her "other job" — owning and operating Uniformly Yours, a first class uniform and accessories business for the medical community, for school uniforms, and even for chefs and the hospitality industry. Her store in the Panera Bread Plaza at I-94 and Niles Road in St. Joseph Charter Township became the go-to location for anyone in need of everything from a nurses smock to a doctors lab coat.

Several factors recently converged forcing Angie to decide that it was time to close up her shop, and it will permanently cease to exist at midweek, on August 31st. Over the past couple of weeks they've been liquidating virtually everything in stock according to Angie's husband Larry Hendrixson who has helped out at the shop on many occasions over the years. Professionally, he is a real estate agent.

Angie herself has been working longer hours at Lakeland and she recently lost three of her four key employees as two left for college and the third was offered a job in the career field she had obtained her bachelors degree in — video production & editing. Larry says Angie didn't want to have to start from scratch all over again, due to the huge investment in hiring and training new employees. The task of hiring and training new employees had been the role of the store manager who had been offered the new job elsewhere.

Even Larry was increasingly being kept busy with a strong real estate market locally, leaving him less time to devote to the store, so…they're closing operations down on Wednesday. They have already sold all of the store fixtures and displays, and only a small bit of clothing inventory remains to be sold between now and the end of the line.

Both Angie & Larry say it has been a good ten year run, and they will definitely miss their loyal customer base. The last day of business is Wednesday, and the space between Panera Bread and the Sprint Store, Wireless Land, at 3260 Niles Road will be back on the market again. Larry says to his knowledge there are no immediate plans for a replacement tenant in that space.
