SJ Downtown Development Authority Moves to Earlier Meeting Schedule

Business owners and other interested parties who want to keep tabs on the people who keep tabs in turn on downtown St. Joseph and help make the central business district a strong and vibrant place in which to do business, will have to start getting up a little earlier or at least arrive at the organizational meetings earlier than usual.

The Downtown Development Authority (“DDA”) has changed their regularly scheduled monthly meeting time from 8:30am to the new start time of 8:00am, effective immediately. That decision was by unanimous vote of the DDA board at their January 18, 2018 meeting.

DDA Director Susan Solon tells us, “The reason for the change in time is because one of our board members, specifically the resident board member, has a conflict with their job commitment; thus, the need for the change.  Otherwise, he is forced to leave the meeting early in order to fulfill his commitment for his employment.”

The 2018 meetings for the DDA, with a new meeting time of 8:00am include:

  • February 15
  • March 15
  • April 19
  • May 17
  • June 21
  • July 19
  • August 16
  • September 20
  • October 18
  • November 15
  • December 20

Solon also noted that the February 15th meeting has been canceled due to not having a quorum on that date, therefore, the next meeting of the DDA will take place on March 15, 2018 at 8:00am.

The general purpose of the Downtown Development Authority is organized to act as a Downtown Development Authority in accordance with Public Act 197 of 1975, as amended, MCL 125.1651 et. seq., including, but not limited to: (a) correct and prevent deterioration in the DDA District; (b) encourage historic preservation; (c) create and implement development plans; and (d) promote economic growth.
