11th Annual YMCA Race In St. Joseph on July 16th

Enjoy the view along the St. Joseph River, Lake Michigan, Silver Beach, Lions Park Beach, and Howard Recreational Trail, on Saturday, July 16th, 2022, as participants run to raise funds for the Benton Harbor – St. Joseph YMCA.

“One of the YMCA’s pillars is Healthy Living, and we extend that through all of our programming for all ages,” said Monica Norton, race director and senior healthy living director at the YMCA of Greater Michiana. This event marks the 11th annual race, and is the YMCA’s largest fundraiser of the year.

The race is a family-friendly event, and is open to people of all ages. “We encourage families to come out to the race and be healthy together, while having fun and supporting the Y,” says Monica.

Sponsored by Honor Credit Union, race features will include a 5K run, 10K run, 5K walk, and the option to compete virtually. The 5K and 10K routes map out a loop that starts and ends at the Margaret B Upton Arboretum, and 98.3 The Coast will be at the start/finish line, helping runners gear up for the race with always the best music.

Registration opened on July 1st, and will stay open through the 16th. Early registration fee is $35/person for ages 15 and up, and $25/person for ages 14 and Under. Day-off registration will cost $40/per person for all ages. Race packets may be picked up on race day from 7 a.m – 8:15 a.m, and all participants, whether in-person or virtual, will receive this year’s official race shirt and bib.

“The Race for YMCA Committee would like to thank this year’s presenting sponsor, Honor Credit Union and platinum sponsor, Whirlpool,” for supporting this event and the YMCA non-profit in our community. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA’s Annual Campaign, which provides financial assistance for memberships and programs to local children and families in need. Your support helps guarantee that “everyone—regardless of their circumstances or ability to pay—can belong to the Y.”

Volunteers are always needed, and if you would like help for this event, please contact event coordinator Cassie Adams at volunteer@ymcagm.org, or 269-428-9622. For more information about the race and to register online, please visit runsignup.com/raceforymca.
