Show Me The Money Day Connects Van Buren County Residents with Financial Resources
Telamon Corporation and the Van Buren County Show Me The Money Day Committee is pleased to announce the second annual Show Me The Money Day Event. This event is an annual statewide event that kicks off the county’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) season, which is a free service. It is designed to promote financial capability for community members.
There will be financial workshops and residents will be connected with free income tax preparation assistance, low-cost banking products, resources to financial counseling, homebuyer education and other resources. We will also have activities for all age groups including young adult, teen, and preschool age children. Families, Adults, High School and college age youth are highly encouraged to attend. The event and all the activities are free and open to the public, light lunch will be provided.
Show Me the Money Day began in 2011 in Lansing and Flint. Since then, communities of all sizes across Michigan have stepped up to host events, helping thousands to access important financial resources at tax time. In 2019, Show Me the Money Day touched 2,567 Michigan residents at 33 events across the state. Thanks to our generous statewide sponsor, Consumers Energy, we hope to reach over 3,000 individuals this year.
“We are excited that more communities are hosting events and that we are able to support their efforts as a result of our statewide sponsors,” said Brian Rakovitis, Manager of Financial Empowerment Initiatives at CEDAM.
The SMTMD event will be located at Fresh Water Community Church, 600 E. Michigan Ave, Paw Paw Michigan on February 8, 2020 from 10am to 1pm.
This event will also feature a Vendor Café which will consist of trusted financial institutions and service providing agencies. The Vendor Café offers “one-stop services” for families who are looking for financial resources to help them achieve financial goals and to feel more hopeful and in control of their finances.”
